The Gospel Music Association’s 44th Annual Dove Awards returned to Nashville October 15th this year to honor recording artists in all genres of Christian music, and they obeyed fashion laws to the letter. Hosted by Kirk Franklin and Amy Grant, the awards show exhibited Christian music powerhouses like TobyMac, Lecrae, Tamela Mann, Colton Dixon and Jason Crabb.
Here’s a peek at the show’s best looks.
Jason Crabb, one of the night’s top winners, performed in a dashing crushed velvet blazer complimented by olive green jeans. This is a signature look for Crabb that embraces his conservative sense of style.
Cole Walowac of the Capital Kings performed in this letterman jacket and dark pant combo. He accented the look with an oversized gold watch. This look is a direct representation of the culture and style that influences Capital Kings’ music. Walowac and his music partner Jon White are both young musicians who represent youth culture in their clothing.
Tamela Mann looked gorgeous in a fitted black leather/fabric dress that accentuated all of her curves. Leather is hot again this fall season, and her dress is on point. This look is similar to what Mann wore during the BET Awards this year, and it really works for her.
Pastor Rick Warren and author and speaker Joyce Meyer presented an award in both formal and casual looks. Meyer wore a simple A-line black ensemble that was perfect for the occasion. Pastor Warren chose a more casual look, but still obeyed the season’s fashion laws with a plaid button-up shirt jeans.
Kirk Franklin and Amy Grant stole the show in their fashion choices for the evening. Franklin’s known for his boisterous fashion choices, but he chose to wear a traditional American ‘preppy’ look that included white pants, gingham shirt, bow tie and navy blazer.
Grant also chose a traditional look, wearing a stunning floor-length bell-shaped gown (upper photo) that featured a gorgeous gold lace overlay (also on point with the season).
American Idol rocker turned Christian Colton Dixon brought his trademark rock look to the awards. His intricate blazer (and matching tie) with black studs and safety pins on the lapel and pockets add a nice edge to his otherwise simple black and white suit.
If you ever thought Christians lacked style, think again. 😉
