One of the best parts about Florida fall and winter fashion is the opportunity we have to really just enjoy the elements. Since the weather is never unbearably cold here, we have the luxury to create looks based on anything. Conversely, we don’t like being left out, so we partake in as much winter style as we can when things cool down.
Leggings and tights are the best way to show off the cold weather look. The options are endless: patterns, bright colors, or black, in several different fabrics. Leggings and tights help fight through the cooler temps while giving you the chance to stay fashion forward.
Initially, if you’re purchasing any type of leggings, start with a fabulous black pair. This will require researching options and finding what truly elevates your look to a new level. Leggings are a great investment piece, so keep that in mind when shopping around. Firm but still stretchy material is ideal versus cotton. They up the chic factor for whichever top or dress you may add them to. These will make a positively fab ensemble with a great sweater, tunic top, or baby doll dress.
Now, a fashionista doesn’t earn her title by playing it safe all the time, does she?
(Shake your head with me.)
So be strong and venture bravely into the land of patterned leggings. Tribal, yes. Striped, sure. Leopard, polka dots, and geometric, yes, yes, yes. It’s okay to get whacky and love every second of it.
Remember, as with any busy pattern for any look, keep the other elements soft and delicate mostly. If you’re sporting a metallic set of leggings, try a cotton top in a solid color. Edgy, meet dainty. Pleased to meet you, too.
Hit up your nearest fave shop to snag some tights to pull together countless looks. Well, don’t snag, actually.
(Sidebar: If you do wear tights, be sure to throw some clear nail polish in your carry-all to quickly fix a snag. Works like a charm to stop a run.)
Let’s talk options. A cute schoolgirl skirt, a skater style dress, even shorts all play well with tights. Lace tights are one of the most adorable ways to accessorize your look and have you feeling utterly precious. What a fun feeling every once in a while! How about a pair that packs a pop of color, like teal? These will force eyes to curiously follow you. Just like that, fun had by all.
Tights and leggings have your best interest at heart, really. They offer a slight barrier for colder times and still keep your looks fab, classy, chic, experimental, edgy, dainty, or any other look you want to wear for a day. Variety is the spice of life, so “season” your fall and winter.

From a young age, journalist Megan Hyde has had a strong passion for fashion. So much so that when she was four years old, her parents had to install a lock too high for her to keep her out of her closet four times a day for wardrobe changes. As the years have passed, writing and fashion have stayed a constant in this fashion enthusiast’s life and any opportunity to participate in either brings just as much happiness as the September issue of Vogue. Megan lives in the East Orlando area with her love Hunter, dogters Pepper & Roni, and spends far too much time indulging in magazines. A proud UCF Knight Alumnus, Megan is currently pursuing a Masters in New Media Journalism and enjoying her life in The City Beautiful.
