Azeemi is a high fashion clothing and handbag brand started by two sisters, Arzoo and Wazhma. Although they have only started making clothing for clients in the past four years and their handbag collection, Azeemistyle, in the past year, they have been interested in fashion their entire lives. They were inspired by the decorative and colorful culture from their Afghan background and their mother who worked as a tailor and made clothing. They would help with embroidery and beadwork and would practice making outfits from the leftover fabric. Now, they are making custom outfits and gowns in addition to unique handbags. They describe their designs as both elegant and classy, taking inspiration from Eastern traditions mixed with Western influences. An important part of their brand is their logo, which is inspired by whirling dervishes, the mystical SUFI dancers.
Arzoo and Wazhma showcased their line, Azeemi, at Fierce Entertainment Management’s Fall 2015 Fashion E.D.G.E. competition – and they won! They chose to showcase their work in effort to reach out to a greater audience and it paid off. The collection they showcased embraces the spirit of the East and celebrates their heritage, using “both ageless and contemporary [cuts], to craft a look that was elegantly classic,” described Wazhma. They are excited to be back at Orlando International Fashion Week this coming fall.
Azeemi is a one of a kind label through the sisters’ heritage and the fact that they make only a few pieces of each design to maintain the uniqueness of their collections. Arzoo and Wazhma are both driven and hardworking and they intend to keep building their brand and eventually make it become a well-known international label.
